Half Marathon and 5 Mile Fun Run Events

3rd March 2024

Half Marathon

  1. The 13.1 mile HALF MARATHON will be held in accordance with the UK Athletics Associations Rules for Competition. The event will be run through town streets and undulating roads in attractive Chiltern countryside with markers at each mile. There will be drinks stations along the route. 

  2. START 10.00am Sunday 3rd March 2024 from the Cricket Club, Castle Hill, Berkhamsted.

  3. AGE & OTHER RESTRICTIONS ON ENTRY: No under 17's are allowed to run in the Half Marathon (UKA rule).  You MUST be able to run the Half Marathon in under 3 hours to enter the event.

  4. ONLINE ENTRIES are open.  If you wish to have your race packs (chipped bibs, baggage label and race programme) sent to your home address you must enter online before midnight on Sunday 18th February 2024. You can still enter online until midnight on Thursday 29th February 2024 but you will have to collect your race pack.  See LATE REGISTRATION & RACE PACK COLLECTION below.

  5. LATE REGISTRATION & RACE PACK COLLECTION is available on:
    Saturday 2nd March 2024 from 9.30am until 1.30pm CLOSING PROMPTLY at Prince Edward Street, Berkhamsted HP4 3HA or Sunday 3rd March 2024 (race day) from 8.00am until 9.30am CLOSING PROMPTLY at the Berkhamsted School Pavilion (near the Finish), Berkhamsted Cricket Club, Castle Hill, Berkhamsted HP4 1HE. 

  6. OFFICIAL NUMBERS must be worn on the chest of each competitor for the duration of the event. Any Competitor not wearing an official number at the finish will be disqualified, as will any competitor swapping numbers. Competitors will be required to wear an electronic chip for official race timing purposes. 

  7. KEEP LEFT: Runners must keep to the left of the road or as directed by the lead car, signs, marshals and/or the police. Other people will be using the roads so be safe and obey instructions. Keep left and do not cut corners. Runners ignoring directions will be disqualified.

  8. FINISH: After crossing the line go to collect your medal.

  9. NO REFUNDS given even in the event of race cancellation.

  10. NO DOGS or BICYCLES allowed. Anyone accompanied by either or associated with, WILL be disqualified.

  11. CHANGING ROOMS: There will be limited changing facilities at the Cricket Club, in the marquee with designated ladies changing room. Local competitors are requested to arrive prepared for running to allow those who have travelled a distance to have priority over changing rooms. Sorry no showers available!  Secure storage will be available during the race and toilet facilities will be provided.

  12. THE WINNING TEAM: is a team home first with four runners across the finish line. A team comprises not less than four runners. See https://www.berkorun.com/prizes for details,

  13. PARKING: There is pay & display parking in the town within 500 metres of the start. The Police will be very strict with people parking on the route or in NO PARKING areas. Remember that it is for your own safety that we keep the roads clear.

  14. RUNNING PRIZES: See https://www.berkorun.com/prizes  for details of prizes awarded. All who complete the event will receive a medal. 

  15. FUNDRAISING PRIZE: See details of our scheme at https://www.berkorun.com/prizes.

  16. SWEEP VEHICLES: Will be provided for runners in distress around the course, who are recommended to drop out to the nearest marshal.

  17. RESULTS: Full details will be available on the website the following week.

  18. EARPHONES AND HEADPHONES: For runner safety earphone or headphones are not allowed unless approved by England Athletics.  The current rules are that  runners are allowed to wear bone conductor headphones.  Our key requirement, for your safety and that of others, is that you can maintain full hearing of sounds in the real environment around you throughout the event.

  20. COVID 19 GUIDANCE: We respectfully ask that all participants adhere to any UK Government and UK Athletics published guidelines that may apply on Sunday 3rd March 2024.

  21. UKA ANTI-DOPING RULES: An entrant to the Half Marathon event shall be deemed to have made him/herself/their self, familiar with, and agreed to be bound by the UKA Anti-Doping Rules.  The UKA Anti-Doping Rules apply to entrants participating in the sport of Athletics, for 12 months from the date of entry, whether or not the licence holder is a citizen of, or resident in, the UK.

  22. TRANSGENDER: the event will comply with the UK Athletics Transgender Eligibility in Athletics in the United Kingdom Principle Statement 31 March 2023. Five Mile Fun Run

Fun Run

  1. The 5 mile Fun Run follows the first part of the Half Marathon route. Two thirds of the course will be on country roads, with one uphill section. There will be a drinks station at about the half way point. 

  2. START 10.30am Sunday 3rd March 2024 from the Cricket Club, Castle Hill, Berkhamsted.

  3. AGE RESTRICTIONS ON ENTRY: Whilst we do not have any formal age restrictions for this event, we strongly recommend that participants are over 12 years of age (Any entrant under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible person over 18 years of age)

  4.
